Moving forward...

So what to do next.... I started thinking about this a few weeks before the Anniversary run.  I started wondering if I could do it... Run a half marathon!

It would be a big step and I might not be able to do it but I was worrying that after my 5 mile run I wouldn't have the reason to keep running.

I know this is a bit silly as I have found the running has not just been good for my physical health but it has been a godsend for my mental health.

Mental health is still a bit of a taboo and I'm sure if you asked some of my work colleagues they wouldn't know that the last year has been quiet a struggle for me.

Sometimes shitty things happen in life but the last year has at times felt like a long run of shitty things with a few wonderful moments scattered through.

I find the running has been wonderful, because I'm not that good at it I have to concentrate.  Concentrate on putting one foot in front of the other, concentrate on breathing and concentrate on moving forward.  This leaves very little space in my mind for all of the negative and dark thoughts.

The couch to 5 k (C25K) podcasts have been great for this as the narrator (Laura) is constantly telling you you can do this when your mind is saying No! Laura has lots of tips about looking forward and keeping your head lifted to help your breathing.  Sometimes in life you need someone to tell you that you are doing really well and that you can do this!

Thanks for visiting
